Parents’ FAQ

New to cheerleading, or new to us? Here are the questions parents ask most. If yours isn’t here, just get in touch — we love talking cheer.

Forget pom-poms on the sidelines — allstar cheer is a competitive team sport in its own right. Athletes train stunts (lifts and throws), tumbling (flips and cartwheels), jumps and dance, and put them together into a fast, two-and-a-half-minute routine performed to music. Teams then compete against other clubs at events judged on skill, technique and performance.

It’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK — and as our athletes will tell you, it’s seriously addictive.

We welcome young people from primary age, through secondary school, and beyond, with teams grouped by age and ability so everyone trains alongside the right peers. Not sure whether your child’s age fits? Ask us — there’s almost certainly a place for them.

None at all. Our Beginner sessions are designed for complete first-timers — our coaches teach every skill from the ground up. If your child has done gymnastics, dance or cheer before, that’s a great head start, and athletes ready for more can move onto our competition teams.

Not at all — boys are very welcome at Passion. Cheerleading is a mixed sport, and many of the best teams in the world are coed. Strength, jumps and tumbling make it a brilliant fit for boys who love being active.

We have multiple recreational sessions for beginners, and Competition teams train once or twice a week depending on the team. Additional trainings can be scheduled for weekends in preparation for competitions. The full training timetable for the season is in our season pack.

Our schedule is spread across the week with different times for each level. We can only guarantee which day your child’s session will be held once they have been assigned to a team.

Beginner sessions start from £42.50 a month, and competition team training starts from £50 a month.

For competition athletes there are extra costs across the season — things like uniform and competition entry fees — which we set out clearly in the season pack so there are no surprises. Beginner sessions need nothing beyond the monthly fee and comfy sportswear.

For recreational sessions, comfortable sportswear they can move freely in (leggings or shorts and a t-shirt), socks or cheerleading shoes, hair tied back off the face, no jewellery, and a water bottle. That’s it — no special kit is needed to get started.

Competition teams have additional requirements, including a team uniform and appropriate footwear for competitions. Details are provided in the season pack.

Safety comes first in everything we do. Athletes train on a full-size sprung cheerleading floor — the same surface used at competitions — and every skill is built up progressively, so nobody attempts anything they haven’t earned through the steps before it. Our coaches have competed and coached at the highest level of the sport, and our safeguarding and welfare policies are published on our documents page.

Accidents are rare, but we take every precaution to ensure a safe environment for all our athletes.

We operate with "closed practices" to ensure our athletes and coaches can focus completely on safety and teamwork. While the gym floor is a distraction-free zone, you’ll get plenty of chances to see what they’ve been working on, and competition days are the best show of all.

Fill in the short enquiry form under Join our club (or just WhatsApp us), and we’ll get back to you to find the right session for your child and invite you down to the gym.

Still got a question?

No question is too small — ask away and a real human (probably a coach) will get back to you.
